Maintaining Healthy Summer Hair: 5 Tips

Maintaining Healthy Summer Hair: 5 Tips

Summer is now in full swing and it’s time to soak up those sizzling rays! Some due consideration is owed to your precious mane however, as the sun can be as intense as it is beautiful. Here are 5 tips for maintaining healthy summer hair!

1. Trim your Locks

Did you know that hair actually grows faster in the summer? The anagen, aka “active growth phase” of your hair becomes most prominent during this time (amazing!) so you’ll want to proactively prevent split ends by going for a light trim to keep things fresh. Split ends travel up the hair shaft and can cause damage that leads to you having to cut your hair shorter than desired. Stay on top of your mane to avoid this!

2. Rock a Wide-Brimmed Hat

The sun can be damaging to your locks after long hours of UV exposure. Go for a stylish wide-brimmed hat to protect your hair follicles from dryness and damage if you expect to be outdoors for lengthy periods of time (I mean, summer is meant to be enjoyed right?). It will also go a long way to shield your face and other vulnerable areas (like the tips of your ears!) from sun damage.

3. Use a Strengthening Shampoo + Conditioner

Since the drying nature of the sun can cause brittleness and breakage, it’s essential to use a shampoo and conditioner that strengthens your strands! This HAIRtamin® duo is designed not only to promote healthy hair growth - but to protect, nourish, and repair existing strands! It’s packed with wheat protein and super-antioxidants like Vitamin A, C, and E to combat free radicals from the sun’s intense rays and other environmental stressors. Even more, it contains aloe vera, cucumber extract, and vitamin B5 to add much needed hydration to those summer locks!

4. Take a Break from Hot Tools

Embrace the heat of the climate and skip the hot tools when you can! Smartly tossing your hair into a bun, ponytail, or braid post-wash can give you gorgeous beachy waves - without any effort or excess heat. Of course we love our hot tools, but sometimes it’s great to have a break. Add some sea salt spray, scrunch and enjoy your effortless summer look.

5. Consume a Daily Berry Bowl

Up your antioxidant and vitamin C levels naturally by eating berries! Since the sun produces free radicals, it’s important have your antioxidant defences up to prevent damage of your hair follicles. Fruits, and especially berries, provide loads of it. They’re also exceptionally high in vitamin C, which is used by your body both to produce collagen and absorb iron from your diet. Collagen is a major connective protein that strengthens your hair and iron is required for the transfer of oxygenated blood to your scalp (and entire body).
